The note-perfect recreation of the artist’s historical atelier in Amsterdam.
After ringing a doorbell, audiences are ushered into a dark, mysterious space where they are met with only a voice and a pair of eyes – both soon revealed to belong to Rembrandt.
After ringing a doorbell, audiences are ushered into a dark, mysterious space where they are met with only a voice and a pair of eyes – both soon revealed to belong to Rembrandt.
Visitors are introduced to Rembrandt’s self-portrait, his style and his technical mastery through visual storytelling and Rembrandt’s own verbal accounts, as the lights come up in the note-perfect recreation of the artist’s historical atelier in Amsterdam. We go from hearing how faces contain stories, and how he captures that, to a faithful copy of the very studio used by the master artist – lived-in and wonderfully detailed.
Audiences can see his dynamic curtain system used to control light on his subjects; they can mix powders for pigments in a grindstone dish; and they are treated to a step-by-step tutorial of the process he used in constructing his paintings.

Finally, audiences are treated to a plethora of rich digital renderings of Rembrandt’s masterpieces – and upon their exit, an app that allows them to learn, remember and adapt what they heard in the immersive exhibition to a practical, fun activity will keep the whole experience close to their hearts for years to come.
