Ahmed Mater Exhibition in UCCA, China

As part of the Saudi-Chinese Cultural Year, Ahmed Mater’s exhibition at UCCA Edge in Shanghai marked a historic first: the largest solo show by a Saudi contemporary artist in China. Featuring 108 works, the exhibition showcased Mater’s exploration of memory, identity, and transformation in the Arab world through photography, film, and installation.

Hosted at UCCA Edge—Shanghai’s leading contemporary art space—the show reflected the venue’s mission to promote international dialogue and artistic innovation. Alongside the artworks, guided tours, workshops, and artist talks fostered deeper engagement, offering Chinese audiences a rare insight into Saudi Arabia’s dynamic cultural landscape.

This landmark collaboration not only celebrated cultural exchange but also laid the groundwork for lasting artistic connections between Saudi Arabia and China.
